The Clinical Effects of Zopiclone (Imovane^(®)) in the Treatment of Insomnia

Abstract
|
|
|
To evaluate the clinical effects of zopiclone (Imovane®), authors applied Spiegel Sleep Questionnaire on the 18 psychiatric patients suffered from insomnia, and appraised change of some aspects of sleep parameters, safety and side effects during 3 weeks of treatment of zopiclone.
The results were summarized as follows.
1. compared with the baseline, all the items of sleep parameters (time to fall asleep, quality of sleep, duration of sleep, awakenings at night, dreams, condition in the morning, general evaluation) were improved significantly after 1 week and 3 weeks of treatment with zopiclone.
2. During 3 weeks of administration, the efficacy of zopiclone was maintained throughout the treatment phase and that tolerance to zopiclone was unlikely to occur.
3. During 3 weeks of adminstration, particular toxicity cannot be observed, and side effects were bitter taste, hangover, and facial edema.
From these results, zopiclone® is evaluated as an effective drug for the treatment of insomnia, and can be applied safely and usefully on the Korean patients suffered from insomnia.
